TITAN CMS - Filter Block

Block used to display a list of pages, documents and other data using text, images and or links. 

Overview

The Filter Block is used to display a list of pages, documents and other data using text, images and or links.  Common uses are: Featured Content presentation, Cross-content marketing, Document library searching, Product catalog searching, Video play lists and sub navigation within your site.  In the v6.8 release the "Set Your Sort Order" was updated.

Steps
  1. Click the drop down for Add New Block.
  2. Select the Filter block, Filter editor will load.
  3. Configure your Filter block:
  4. Select One or More Sources:
    1. Check one or more sources from the Left Nav Tree structure.
  5. Set Your Sort Order: *Updated in v6.8
    1. Last Published Date "Newest First"
    2. Last Published Date "Oldest First"
    3. Sort Date "Newest First"
    4. Sort Date "Oldest First"
    5. Alphabetical by Page Name
    6. Display Order Property (see properties') *Set manual priority overrides this sort.
    7. Number of Views (based on properties' Auditing)
    8. Average Rating (see comments & rating section)
  6. Set Optional Filters:
    1. Check which type(s) of filter for your display.
    2. Display the What's New active items only.
    3. Display only items published in the last ____ days.
    4. Display only ____ items.
  7. Remove Documents from Results:
    1. Click the Set Exclude button.
    2. Check any items in list that should not be included in display.  *This list could be impacted if you have Tags/Attributes already configured within this block (see step 9).  The Tag setting will limit your list.  If you need to access full list, turn off the Tag and view list, then turn tag back on.
  8. Set Manual Priorities:
    1. Click Set Priorities button.
    2. Enter number in box for order of items in display.
  9. Caching for Public Displays:
    1. Check box to Cache Public default view until application/nav Refresh.
      1. Changes that don’t take effect until after Refresh:
        1. Different root selections in tree
        2. What’s New filter (*optional filter)
        3. Items published in last X days (*optional filter)
        4. Default Sort Order
        5. N/A  Filter Ranges configuration
          1. *Exception Keyword
        6. Pagination
        7. Limit to X items (*optional filter)
        8. Excluded docs
        9. Set manual priorities  *over-rides sort option
        10. Tags, Lookups, Ranges
        11. Audit count
    2. Changes that take effect right away:
      • Caching checkbox
      • Filter Area Title
      • Keyword field filter
      • Filter Zone
      • Adv Tag Options
      • Everything in Configure Your Results display except pagination
  10. Filter Your Results Using Tags:
    1. Select a Tag.   *The tag options activated and assigned to source (step 4) will display.
      1. Do not use.  *No tags used to filter results.
      2. Server *The filtered results will display only, not the tag options.  On the display, information will automatically display based on tags configured.  1 or more tags may be configured through block to automatically filter items on display.  User doesn't select filter.
      3. Display and Server  *Selected attributes will display next to checkbox, dropdown, link or checked checkbox.  User may select what to filter results on.
    2. Select Subset  *The attributes will be limited to the subset.  This will be used on the display side, website.
    3. Select the display type:
    4. Static Checkbox  *Checkbox will display
    5. Drop down
    6. Links  *Link and number applicable to tags may be configured to display.
    7. Dynamic Checkbox  *Checkbox and number applicable to tags may be configured to display.
    8. Check if Limit results with assigned attributes.
    9. Apply User Tag setting is used with the Registration block. 
  11. Filter Your Results by Keyword:
    1. Enter word in the field if pre-defined keyword should be used and display.
    2. Check Permit Keyword Filtering on Display.
    3. Check Use Search Box value for keyword, when available. 
    4.  *By checking this check box, you enable user to use the keyword input field.  An input value may be entered in the TitanCMS workstation to display in the field.  User would could remove it and enter another value on display side.
  12. Configure Your Filter Display:
    1. Enter a title in the Filter Area Title
    2. Check if AJAX Support should be used.  (disables submit button)  *AJAX will automatically respond to user selection.
    3. Select Filter Area Zone for where the results should display.
  13. Configure Your Results Display:
    1. Enter Title.
    2. Select a Style option from drop down.
    3. Select if Teaser Text, Long or Short, or first Freeform block should display.
    4. Select if Teaser Image should display.
    5. Select if Page Name should function as a Link.
    6. Check if the Read More link or enter different text, should display.
    7. Check if Views number should display.  *Auditing required to be configured for items.
    8. Configure which Commenting & Rating options should display:
      1. Show Average Rating
      2. Include Total Rating
      3. Link to Read Comments  *Title may be changed.
      4. Include Total Comments
      5. Link to Add Comment & Rating  *Title may be changed.
    9. Check to display Date.  *Default format for date entered.
    10. Check if Pagination should function and at what number of pages.
  14. Click OK to retain, or cancel.
  15. Click Save or Publish from the Page Action Bar to retain changes.

Prerequisite Steps
 

Log in to the workstation:

  1. Enter your TitanCMS URL in a browser address bar.  The Titan log in will display.
  2. Enter your User Name in the User Name field.
  3. Enter your Password in the Password field.
  4. Click Log In.  The TitanCMS application will open to the Web Content Management Module.

Find an existing item in the Nav Tree: 

  1. To expand the node in the tree, use the "+" 
  2. To minimize the node in the tree, use the "-"  
  3. To select the item to work with,  click on the item in the tree.  The item will become highlighted & the item and it's children will appear in the Browse Screen.

Access the Content Edit Tab

  1. Access the content editing pane by either clicking on the "edit" link from the browse screen listing, or by adding a checkmark in the box in front of your page in the browse screen and clicking on the Content Edit Tab.
